  • living in this old home healed my depression as I DIY using tree branches of the tree I chopped down 3 months ago. Living and retiring in this old traditional Japanese home is changing my life for the better. My depression healed by living in this old home. Thank God. Today I am sharing how I solve the difficulty of watering my loved staghorn ferns.

That was a pretty interesting accomplishment with your ferns. They look like orchids. Will they flower?
Indeed, keeping busy and not dwelling too much on life’s hardships help us cope. It’s great knowing you’re gonna be ok and found this house as your salvation. Good health to you and your husband. 😊🙏

I am Japanese and growing up it was where you don’t show certain emotions but I always fought that idea. I found that as I got older I still kind of fit into that 😕I took care of people professionally and then also family members but I had a work life which gave me an outlet. Later I left work to do care 24/7 for a family member and I started to lose myself. Someone told me I was depressed so I sought therapy and I remember telling my mom about that and she refused that thought and told me I was alright. I had to stay on course and see it not as a form of weakness but as an action of self care. She still thinks I don’t need help and I have since been alright …you’re right about diy and finding beauty in things you love to do. That is living ❤ I pray you stay with this channel and it grows because there are so many you can help and in turn, I hope your channel/youtube will be able to provide you with financial return and even sponsors like home improvement or gardening products, care products and of course a big loving community ❤ Thank you my friend -sending you healing, strength and love! Hello to your husband and please tell him I am happy he is doing better!

Dear Francine, I read your beautiful comment. It is in the Japanese culture not to show emotion, while the opposite in the Filipino culture. I am more fitted to the first though. In my case, our life was even in danger in the Philippines so I had this trauma which sometimes keeping me awake at night. But since we moved back to Japan and secured ourselves here, I'm relieved. Francine, thank you for your wishes about me doing this channel. Thank you, Francine. Thank you so much.... - Grace

Hello Grace . Was your house one of the numerous vacant Japanese houses that sell for very little money ? I've read about those houses that need a lot of hard work . 15 years ago I was in the same position as you with a husband who
needed 24/7 care . I never realised I was severely depressed until my clothes started literally falling off me because I barely ate a tiny bowl of rice per day . Nothing but rice . Then my husband couldn't stay home any longer and needed professional care . It's taken me years to recover but now I'm at peace , I cook healthy dishes again , I enjoy plenty of little things . Have a good evening 😊

Hello, Marie. I had a quick chat with the owner of this house asking the price. But it will take time to decide because there are indeed struggles of living in an old house in Japan. Imagine I'm 80, hopefully I'll reach that age, taking care of a yard like this. My husband doesn't want the idea of buying a house. He prefers to live in a so-called "mansion" or "apartment" where I have nothing to worry about weeding. I will make a video about the details of the so-called akiya or abandoned houses in Japan.
Thank you for sharing your story with your husband. How wonderful it is to have this kind of conversation with you, Marie. Have a good day! - Grace

Life, love, living. To go beyond just existing. These are wonderful videos. I'm wondering if I should do the same being married so long to a Palestinian husband when the world thinks of them as terrorists. They are merely trying to hang on to what they have/had as the occupiers take more and more of their land and lives. That's all I'll say about the subject. You are doing well in helping the rest of us to cope. Thank you.

Reading your comment, Fash. At first, I wanted to compile my thoughts in one place ( YT channel) for my grandchildren to watch when I'm gone and they're grown-up already. I want them know how their grandma live a life in Japan with grace. If I eat with my hands because that is our culture in the Philippines, I'd like them to see that. But for now, the people who are getting some kind of "peace" through my videos are my fellow women who're in the similar condition in life. I'm honored and grateful.
